OUR OBJECTIVES
To improve accessibility to public services via the Internet by bringing together Directgov and Local Authority online services into a single offering: |
Access Channels
Generally, in the esd-toolkit, access channels are the means by which interactions have been e-enabled. It is perfectly valid to have more than one access channel (website, call centre and face-to-face) for each interaction against the Local Government Service List (LGSL) service to show all the different ways the interaction is enabled.
Local Directgov deals only with the website access channel. The URL of the website page for a particular service/interaction is recorded in the esd-toolkit against access channel 1. The URLs may be added to the esd-toolkit 'manually' by visiting each service separately or in bulk by uploading a CSV (Comma Separated Values) delimited file (see Factsheet 4).
Adding Data Manually to Access Channels
All services are organised in a structured way, known as a tree. Each authority can configure the tree to reflect their own organisation. This is known as the local tree. A Local Authority Officer can go to their local tree, click 'search' and type in the Local Government Service List number. Once the service is located they can then add an interaction to that service - in this case the interaction is 'Web Access Channel' when the relevant URL has been entered to the service the changes can be saved.

For Local Directgov, it is expected that all 'e-enabled' access channels (ones with e-enabled dates in the past) will also have a Web site URL filled in if the channel is Web based.
